FAQs

Why was LVCHA started?

No one should homeschool alone!

The Las Vegas Christian Homeschool Alliance (LVCHA) is being formed to provide connections and community to families who’ve been waitlisted, or simply searching for a like-minded, faith-based community.  The LVCHA is being created by families who’ve experienced the value of a strong, supportive, and well-organized community, and want to share that with others so more families can thrive!

The LVCHA promises fresh energy, flexible leadership, and open collaboration. Whether you’re just exploring homeschooling or looking for a stronger support network, we’d love to meet you.  Join us, and be part of something inspiring from the very beginning. Let’s build this together.

What does LVCHA cost?

$125 Annual Membership

Navigators is a social group that offers a variety of options that you pick and choose to participate in, to supplement and enhance your homeschool experience. The registration forms (family info, release of liability, adherence to the handbook and statement of faith, and background check) along with the $125 annual family fee are all that is required for registration.  This gives you access to LVCHA resources, communities, free events, and additional discounted opportunities.

Once you join LVCHA, you will have access to the members only website.  The calendar showcases all of the events available to you.  Details (day, time, cost, ages restrictions, etc.) and RSVP information are found there, within each event.

Check out our Membership Benefits page for more details.

What is included in my LVCHA membership?

So much!  Check out our Membership Benefits page for more details.

What ages does LVCHA support?

(Preschoolers and nursery aged babies are included in Co-ops.)

What is required of parents?

General: To keep costs low, we ask that parents volunteer to support at least one event during the year.  We also understand that some families may need an alternative option, which is why we offer an opt-out fee if needed.

Co-Op Classes: Parents must be on site while their students are in class, and all of our parents voolunteer in at least one classroom.  Being a teacher or co-teacher is optionoal.

PE: Parents must be on site while their students are in PE.  Being a coach is optional.

If I enroll as a member, do I have to participate in co-op classes?

No.  We know that homeschool families need choices.  Your $125 gets you acess to all things LVCHA.  From there you get to choose whatever fits your family.  Some families only do dances, or graduation, or field trips.

What are co-op classes and how do they work?

Co-ops require parent participation.  Classes are taught by parents, up to two hours of the three hour block.  Teaching parents get first access to registration and a supply allowance.  Co-ops will have one registration this year and run late September to April, one day per week.  Location and day TBD once registration numbers are in.

How Co-op classes work: Parents will be asked to submit their class ideas. Intent varies based on knowledge and talents parents are willing to share.  Depending on space and need, those will be approved and scheduled. Teaching parents register first, then members at large.  Every participating family in Co-ops will have an assignment - teacher, teacher helper, security, supplies, etc.  It takes many hands to pull this off.

Can LVCHA students participate in archery?

Yes!  NV Clark Homeschool is an amazing NASP archery program that opens its doors to homeschool students from across the valley.  Returning archers have access to early registration, and remaining spots are then opened to new homeschool archers.  If your returning archer participated in fundraising, their funds will follow them into the upcoming archery year.

Will there be a yearbook?

For sure!

Will Turning Point USA (TPUSA) be avilailable to LVCHA students?

Yes!

Can I join LVCHA as well as other homeschool groups?

We want to make space so that no one has to homeschool alone.  We also understand that many families engage in a variety of groups and homeschool resources.  We trust families to make the best decisions for themselves.

Is LVCHA coordinating with other homeschool groups in the valley?

We truly believe that the valley needs more homeschool groups!  Nevada has the third largest percentage of homeschoolers, and this often finds families on long waitlists before being able to join a homeschool group.  We love and honor the diversity of the groups within the Las Vegas homeschool community, and connecting homeschool students and families is why we all do this.  Community matters!  So yes, we love to coordinate with other groups in ways that support all groups involved.  We have expressed our interest to other group(s) for partnership on large events and where shared resources might benefit everyone.
